IN THE NEWS

Congratulations to Townwest Sertoma’s Service to Mankind 2009 recipient, Tim Nall and his company We B Trees and We B Haulin’. Tim has been a valuable asset to this community for many years by helping out whenever he can. This year he helped the club with finishing the demolition work on the Chamber House project. He donated the dumpsters and covered the tipping fees for all the debris from these projects.

The club donated $200 to Ed Taylor to help buy toys for the children he sees as he portrays Santa Claus at a local hospital.

Townwest Sertoma donated $150 to Potter’s Clay Mission to help with Christmas baskets. We also donated money to Western Neighbors to help provide Thanksgiving baskets to the needy.

SHOP NEWS

In order for the Owasso shop to continue operations, the board thought "outside the box" and held a dance to invite prospective clients.  There were around 67 people and it looks like they will pick up enough new clients to keep their doors open and service that area.  Another dance will be held Dec. 18.

 TOWNWEST SERTOMA HISTORY
The Townwest Sertoma Club was formed June 30, 1981 as a sponsorship of the Southside Sertoma Club. Larry Coulson, former Tulsa Police and Fire Commissioner, was Southside Sertoma’s club building chairman in 1981 and was a key figure in the formation of the club. The club’s name was linked to the Townwest area of Southwest Tulsa like many of the other Sertoma clubs in the nation. The club was incorporated on September 2, 1981

MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the club is open to anyone interested in helping others through hands on projects and sponsorships. The local Sertoma clubs are part of an international organization with general headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. In the United States are regions and smaller groups of clubs, each with elected officers.

MEETINGS
Club meetings are held once a week at a local restaurant. The longest series of meetings was 13 years at Ollie’s Station Restaurant. Other westside restaurants have also hosted the club for shorter periods of time. Current meetings are held each Wednesday morning from 7:00 to 8:00 at Ollie’s Station Restaurant 4070 Southwest Boulevard. Each week the club hears speakers about topics of interest, conducts business and works on sponsorships to help in the community. Financing of the sponsorships is done through fundraising projects throughout the year.

BERRYHILL SCHOOLS ADOPTION
Berryhill Public Schools was adopted by the club. One of the more successful activities in the school has been a youth group called “Serteens” that follows the same guiding principles of the regular Sertoma Clubs.

LAW ENFORCEMENT AWARDS
The Townwest Club has held a banquet since 1989 to honor Tulsa County Deputies, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers from Troop B and 911 Emergency Telecommunicators from the Tulsa area Emergency Communications Center.

SPONSORSHIPS
Sponsorship projects are funded by money raised in an annual garage sale, a Spring bike tour, a few merchandise selling programs and some advertising in the Law Awards banquet program. Money raised in the fundraising goes back to the club to sponsor ongoing projects and special community needs.
